EXPERIENCE

Board Member / CTO / Chief Architect
Kohman  Inc., New York NY August '99  to present

Cofounder of Kohman Inc.  The company runs an eCommerce enabling service from the site PopUpTech.com, which is power by a proprietary technology system The POP-UP Shops are portable Shopping Objects that use the latest Java and ActiveX technology to display highly relevant content via push technology to the consumers. POP-UP Shop is product independent and is in deployment on content specific sites on the World Wide Web. Merchants of all kinds develop PopUp Shops and distribute them through the system to a brand new network of independent content sites. This results in a brand new channel of sales, driven by the targeted interest of the consumers who go to smaller, more specialized sites. Additionally Web publishers monetize their traffic, and find new revenue streams by affiliation with the existing merchants who've developed PopUp Shops..

As a Board Member (still actively serving).
With other Cofounder (the CEO) interviewed and brought on board all other upper level management personnel, including: Director Operations,  Director of Marketing, CFO, Human Resources Manager, and after end of 1st year the COO and Director of Development.  Arranged for incubation facilities during first phase funding from Angels.  Actively participated and negotiated startup and stage one funding. Brought to the table investors for in second round. Participated in all Board Meetings as Member of 5 member board of Directors of the company.

Personal responsibility on Board was to explain some of the complex workings of our new technologies to non-technical board members, and investors. Determined stock option plan. Reviewed and edited all legal documentation.

As CTO (finished serving in this capacity in Oct 2000).
Primary responsibility was in charge of all areas of Technical operations of the company To this goal, set in motion 2 simple objectives to exist for the team to follow: First, alleviate operational burden of the firm and second, use Areas of Ingenuity.  This meant integrating and configuring industry standard technologies where possible and for those systems requirements which can only be accomplished by inspired ideas and the ingenuity to apply good design and development techniques.
Mapped out executed the 1.5 year development initiative, including but not limited to, design of systems, hires, resources, hosting, equipment purchases, operations methodologies, migration and rollout schedules.

Made all final hiring and firing decisions for all technical personnel and operations support staff (including the Director Operations).   Produced all technical documentation for investors.  Two thirds of the staff reported to me. Apprised Board, CEO and Marketing Staff of all technical developments of the company. Oversaw day to day Development and Operations for the firm.

As Chief Architect (finished serving in fulltime capacity in Oct 2000)
In charge design of whole system and support processes.  True responsibility was to determine and handle all technical issues of the company. Technically interviewed all project leaders, programmers and administrators.  Made all decision of products to be used for development and operations. Designed overall system architecture for pieces above the component level. Worked in or managed all phases of software lifecycle but heavily spent time on Development, QA test plans and rollout schedules. All systems requirements were determined between the CEO, Director of Marketing and Myself.

Met the milestone by seeing the completion of the system to the level of daily production use. Features of the final system included: Ability to do analysis, of statistical tracking data of correlation between product classifications and site classification. Handle changing product base by providing a bulk upload and quickly configurable Vendor’s user interface to our proprietary product database. Multiple Payment methodologies by compartmentalize the payment module.. Starting with standard interfaces CyberCash, LinkPoint and EDP. Provided CBHT (Customer Buying Habits Tracking) by recording and tracking all shop usage and customer purchase information down to the content site. Automated deployment by allowing many webmasters to easily configure and deploy the shops by tightly coupling our proprietary configuration database with our content provider Web Based user interface. Seamlessly handled 1000s of Fluctuating distribution points by creating a server which would allow the maintenance of content site product category classifications and providing dynamic calling of the popup shop from a standardized interface. Incorporate new offerings without the overhead of rewrites and allowed the artistic and editorial staff to quickly react to new marketing and sales techniques from the business side through the design of the engine and servers, driven by a proprietary templating markup language connected to the configuration database. Ability to integrate large aggregators without major human resources, which as important affect reduces the human error factors and allows an existing Affiliate network to acquire and use us by providing a secure proprietary cross platform inventory definition and transfer system. Based on standard encryption, ftp, ODBC and our classification system.

A whole host of software and systems were used to accomplish these goals.  Internet Connectivity provided through T1 and DSL lines for use by Exchange, IIS, FTP, SSL was VersiKey, Artist Work was done with Cam media, PSP, Photo shop,  Programming was done with Coldfusion, MSDN, InterDev, Java, Active Perl, ASP, Javascript. Payment Service APIs were Linkpoint, Cybercash. Secured (non-internet) communications products used were Delrina WinFax, IBM’s EDI, EDP check services Webpage Development was done using Cold Fusion, Flash, Frontpage, Dreamweaver. Accounting/Billing System we used MAS-90 and Quickbooks. The Database Migration Path used ODBC so that we were able to use Access for Demo Phase, then switch SQL Server and ORACLE for long term.
